Halu Chilume Ganga Temple Trek - A thorny adventure
Halu Chilume trek has been a long pending in our group, there was lot of enthusiasm around to trek this, however only our master trekker and me made it :). The hills is in doddabalapur outskirts, google shows multiple routes, the one we took was almost was a off roading trail, however the Scorpio handled it well. Way back we came from another route which was better.
You can park the vehicle in the village at the base of the hills, and follow the trail. The ganga temple is half way and then can return back or follow the trail until the Ujjani Betta and then decent back, you get the full view of the hills range.
In around 20 mins of the climb, you will come across the first clearing on the trail. You will hear the sounds of peacocks singing in the nearby fields. Keep your eyes open for birds, stick insects and other creatures moving around you. If you get lucky, there are chances of spotting snakes as well. Do not disturb the animals. The best way is to let them go away from you. They are more scared of us than we are of them.
Difficulty Level: Easy (Continuous ascent till top, same descent)
Distance: 2.5 kms (to Ujjani Betta)
Best time: Oct to March
DIY Trek: Yes
Trail type: Ascent and decent on forest trail and boulders, some portion of stone steps.
Altitude: 2,700 ft to 3,310 ft
Startpoint: https://goo.gl/maps/EhDjtpmR1uedfi5w8
This is the ganga temple or the diety, which is called halu chilume ganga, there is water source at this place, which looks to be the origination of the halu chiluma which is supposed to be a main water stream in the region. In Summer it is dried up, but thee is puddle of water always.
This temple is just the half way, you can further go up to the top, from where
you get the view of the entire surrounding. You need to use a bit of technique to get on top of this rock face if its slippery. The whole of the mountain has thorny shurb which will hurt a lot if not precocious maneuvering the climb.
