Gavi Rangana Betta - A Cliff Hanging Cave temple and more..

Gavirangana Betta is a Hillock with Cave temple. There is a motorable road leading you to a few temples which are perched on the top. Trekkers can take the trail via steps (they are in a dilapidated condition with no sign board either, but an easy trail).

A good place for family picnic or for a small trek, the views on top is amazing, give 360' views of the mountain range around, an infinite pool, Cave Temple and lot of place on top to explore.

This place is a popular temple as many locals come here to offer prayers and fulfill vows. For nature lovers, this is a great place to admire nature. From here, one can see popular hillocks like Kabbala Durga, Sri Revana Siddeshwara Betta and Ramanagar hillocks.

 

There are no amenities available on the top, so one should carry food and water. The place is nearly neat, so please ensure that there is no littering. This place is also a great spot for sunrise and sunset. However, travelling in dawn and dusk can be pretty risky though.

Elephant dung is found on the hillock which is a pointer to the fact that it is frequented by elephants. So, pl be careful. You can take the Channapatna road or Kanakapura road (either from Bengaluru or Mysuru to reach the place) 

 

A bit of history. According to Karnataka State Gazette, "This foothills- Singarajapura derives its name from Singaraja who was a feudatory under Hoysalas. 

 

The rocky hill overlooking the village is around 200 metres high. There is a cave called Bhairava cave which has two masks painted with fest colours called Kenchanna and Kariyanna and some small images. The main temple is Ranganatha is in a cave with a hall in front and natural rocky shelter. The Shikhara is in Vijayanagara style. The topmost portion of the hill has a natural pond having perennial water source. The locals believe that this was a dwelling place for Rishyashringa and his ashram over the hill."
