A trek in to a Monsoon wonder - Ganalu
Monsoons were never any hindrance for the treks, the shoes and gear had seen all the seasons on the trail. We had done the long trails on the western ghats to rainy himalayas. I had seen this place during one of the drive to the Bheemeshwari, but it wasn't monsoon then and was quite dry. So one of the weekend in Oct was perfect for the Ganalu, and it turned out to be a season and picture perfect.
Located just 100 km away from the city of Bangalore, Ganalu Falls is close to Shivanasamudra. The falls is formed on the simsha river just after the dam called Shimshapura Dam. So tricky part is you never know when the falls has sufficient water or now, there are many disappointments people have gone through, realizing not a drop of water when they have gone there. However the luck or proper planning we had beautiful fall view.
The road to the falls is broken and in monsoon it is not drivable, however bikes can make it. Best is part at the village at the entry and then trek all along.
The cascading shallow water flows on the rocky terrain is breathtaking, it is stepped falls, and in monsoon it is quite slippery, it takes quite adventurous heart to explore around and getting in to waters.
Difficulty Level: Easy
Distance: 2 kms
Best time: Monsoon and post monsoon (Check water level before venturing)
