Kabbaladurga Trek - A Monolithic Curve

It was yet another weekend trek from our group Bengaluru Moon Trekkers, it is big story of how this group was formed and named :) for now the below picture of Moonlit Kabbaladurga explains Moon part of it..!

History: Kabbaldurga is a ruined fort located in Bangalore rural district, Karnataka. It is at a distance of 75 km from Bangalore. Murari Rao Ghorpade, 18th century Maratha chieftain who controlled Gooty was defeated by Hyder Ali in 1776 AD and kept in Kabbaldurga fort till death. Murari Rao surrendered and sent to this fort along with his family members. During British Raj, convicts were thrown off the cliff of this port, as a punishment. The peak is home to the temple of Goddess Kabbalamma and had derived its name from the temple and the ruins of a fort at the peak.

As usual we started at 4 Am from bengaluru and had reached the base of the hills by 5 Am, the very sight of the lights and Moon Lit hills looks quite mystic and thrilled. As we started the trek in dark, we missed the exact start point and climbing on available path on the grasses and bushes. However as the dusk disappeared and Sun started showing up on the horizon, we realized there is fort wall ahead of us and is no where we can climb it, so had to make a detour of 300-400 mtrs to return to actual path. The lesson learnt is we should follow the light trail for the path in dark.

Park the vehicle near the community/Dining hall of temple at base, and has to pass through the quarry area, and later the ascent could be daunting to even experienced hikers as the support rails are broken and one has to balance self on the steep rock steps along the curve of the hills. Rest the pictures below will do the justice.
